Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was recruited as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. She joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She was promoted to Washington general correspondent for NBC News two years later. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. Mitchell was promoted to the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist of the 1988 presidential debates in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when both Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered many notable reports, including weapons control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to many summits with the help of President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
